Blepharoplasty, also known as plastic eye surgery, is one of the cheapest and simplest surgeries in aesthetic surgery. At the same time, this intervention can smooth out the most pronounced signs of aging - overhang and swelling in the eyelid area. During the surgery, which also takes no more than an hour and a half, the fatty hernias are carefully removed, commonly referred to as "bags" under the eyes, the excess skin is cut out, and the problem of bruising under the eyes is eliminated. And if, before surgery, the patient was still "under his eyebrows" looking at the world under the weight of swelling of the upper and lower eyelids, then at the exit his gaze would be open, youthful "turned up, " and fresh.
Limited plastic eye surgery
And unlike common skepticism, the natural shape of the eyes does not change after blepharoplasty, they do not stretch artificially, as in Jocelyn Wildenstein. To achieve such a result, it must at least exceed the "limit" of plastic surgery for one person and should not be more than four. How many of them Jocelyn had was not known, but it clearly went far beyond what was allowed.
Usually, plastic surgeons say that during surgery, the eyes are literally extended by 1-2 mm - these changes are usually not even noticed by patients. But if they are constantly dragged and increased in size by 1 cm, they will inevitably begin to reveal all the secrets that are so carefully hidden.
But at the same time, experts immediately emphasize that the effect of plastic eye surgery lasts only 5-7 years. Therefore, the majority of patients here are over 35 years of age with visible age-related deformities that cause significant discomfort to a person.
Another important point: blepharoplasty does not smooth out wrinkles in the corners of the eyes, also known as "crow’s feet. " For this purpose, various injections are used today - from botulinum toxin to more natural, hyaluronic acid-based vitamin cocktails. to eliminate fine wrinkles, not only around the eyes, but on the forehead, in the area of the nasolabial fold, between the eyebrows.
Age-related changes are not the only indication for ophthalmic surgery
However, age, as an indication for blepharoplasty, is a fairly relative criterion, as young people often turn to plastic surgeons who need eye plastic surgery in this area because of signs of premature aging. Premature aging of this zone can occur for the following reasons:
- genetic predisposition to rapid aging or the formation of "bags" under the eyes;
- liver and kidney disease;
- "Unhealthy" lifestyle: eating too salty foods, alcohol, smoking;
- harmful cosmetic habits, such as stretching the skin while applying creams, the habit of not washing off makeup, lack of proper cosmetic care.
If the young patient does not have to remove excess skin, the surgeon prefers modern plastic surgical techniques on the eye - transconjunctival blepharoplasty. This technique is mostly non-traumatic and does not even require a stitch. The only thing is that this way you can only remove greasy deposits (bags under the eyes) on the upper and lower eyelids without cutting out other tissues.
To perform the manipulations, the plastic surgeon twists the eyelid, makes a millimeter puncture on the inside of it called the conjunctiva, and through it removes the fatty hernia that causes the bags under the eyes to form. The puncture in the mucosa is tightened shortly after surgery without any further intervention, as the tissues here regenerate particularly quickly. Generally, after such surgery, the patient is sent for discharge 1-1, 5 hours after the procedure.
Indications for plastic surgery of the eye
- fatty hernia in the upper and / or lower eyelid;
- "Bruises" under the eyes;
- swelling in the periorbital region;
- ptosis of the upper eyelid;
- wrinkles and excess skin around the eyes;
- asymmetry of the eyes (shape and cut);
- single shoot in the upper eyelid (typical of Asian-looking people)
Methods of plastic surgery of the eye
In modern plastic surgery, there are two main methods for performing blepharoplasty:
- Laser- the cuts are made with a laser beam;
- Surgical- "access" is opened with a scalpel.
Types of plastic surgery for eye correction
Each procedure in ophthalmic surgery lasts up to an hour and a half. These are performed under general anesthesia (desirable in the case of circular blepharoplasty) or under local anesthesia based on a solution of adrenaline and 1-2 lidocaine. Within two hours after surgery, the patient should be at the clinic to rule out complications.
Sutures after ophthalmic surgery are removed within 3-4 days - in the case of classical blepharoplasty, if the surgery was performed transconjunctivally, they are not superimposed at all.
After blepharoplasty, bruises and some swelling may persist around the eye for 1-2 weeks. Usually this is normal - just wait.
Upper eyelid plastic surgery
It assumes eye correction in the upper eyelid area. As a result, the "heavy" overhang is eliminated, the excess skin is removed. For the manipulations, the plastic surgeon makes an incision in the area of the natural fold in the upper eyelid zone, then removes the excess skin wing and removes it after opening access to the adipose tissue. incision is made here with internal suturing and special thinner fibers, as a result of which the scar becomes completely invisible even to the patient within 1-2 months.
Plastic surgery of the lower eyelid and elimination of bruises and bags under the eyes
With blepharoplasty on the lower eyelid, an incision is made 1-2 mm below the lashes. During surgery, the surgeon first cuts off some of the excess skin and then opens and removes the tissue from the oily bags, which are fatty hernias. Sometimes the lower blepharoplasty, on the contrary, does not eliminate the fat deposits, but slightly replenishes them, evenly distributing them in the "lower" zone.
Internal seams are then applied, which, as in the first case, completely fade and become completely invisible after about 1-2 months.
Circular blepharoplasty
This is a simultaneous correction of the lower and upper eyelids.
Eye surgery plastic surgery
This plastic eye surgery technique is the most sought after among people of Asian appearance. The procedure, also called cantoplasty, allows you to double the size of a single wrinkle in the upper eyelid that is typical of the Asian population, similar to ours.
During the operation of the plastic surgery of the eye incision, the epicanthus (a characteristic protrusion of the skin fold in the inner corner of the eye) disappears with the simultaneous formation of the double fold in the crescent shape. Excess fat deposits are also removed around the eyes.
But the Asian appearance is not the only indication for plastic eye surgery, i. e. , correction of the fold of the upper eyelid. With such an intervention, you can correct the shape and incision of the eyes, tighten the lowered outer corners. Cantoplasty is no more traumatic than other types of blepharoplasty.
Recovery period after plastic eye surgery
On average, the recovery period lasts 2-6 weeks. Those who are non-smokers and strictly follow all of the surgeon’s postoperative recommendations can expect a minimum amount of time:
- For 7-10 days, the patient should wear tinted glasses;
- you should stop wearing contact lenses for the benefit of the glasses for about 10-14 days;
- avoid physical exertion, sudden movements, bending, this can provoke tearing of the seams;
- you must give up cosmetic procedures for at least one month;
- makeup is only allowed 10 days after surgery.
Contraindications for eye surgery
- cardiovascular diseases;
- colds and infectious diseases;
- oncology;
- diabetes;
- respiratory failure;
- liver and kidney disease;
- chronic diseases in the acute stage;
- thyroid disease;
- mental disorders;
- violation of blood clotting;
- pregnancy and lactation
The following tests should be performed to identify barriers to ophthalmic surgery:
- general blood test;
- blood for coagulogram;
- blood chemistry;
- the cardiologist's conclusion based on the ECG;
- endocrinologist conclusion;
- abdominal ultrasound;
- blood test for HIV;
- visit by a psychologist.
The price of plastic eye surgery
Prices for plastic surgery have dropped significantly in recent years. This is mainly due to the technological development of this area, but in no way to a reduction in the quality of the services provided. Previously, plastic surgeons operated mainly with a single scalpel and outdated techniques, making large and deep incisions that left fairly noticeable scars. Today, these techniques are replaced by cheaper high-tech techniques that allow surgical interventions to be performed quickly and minimally invasively. As a result, the cost of plastic surgery has become more affordable for ordinary people.
